Joe Hoang of the South Vietnamese Air Force

Giao H. Hoang, a Helicopter pilot of South Vietnam Air Force; was trained by the US Army in 1971, TH-55 at Fort Wolters, Texas, class 71-46B3 and Huey at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, class 71-23. TH-55 IP was Captain Robert R. Kirby, Huey's IP was Captain Johnson, IFR's IP was Captain Jarvis (magician). "Joe" returned to Vietnam in 1972 and flew combat alongside the American armed forces in IV Corp until 1975 when the Vietnam War was over, he was able to escape to Thailand and became a Vietnamese refugee. He has settled in Orangeburg, New York since. In 1980, he obtained the American citizenship through Immigrant Naturalization Process.

My friend Chieu, a South VNAF helicopter pilot who has joined the National Guard since 1976 in Pennsylvania. We stationed in the same Air Force base in Vietnam, he represented the South VNAF to take the last Huey used in Vietnam to its "Final Journey Home". Other South VNAF pilots seen in those pictures are also my friends... I was not there but it must have been a very emotional moment for all of us, the Vietnam War was over many years ago but its memory will linger forever...
